Mortgage Crisis Is Affecting Local Property Crime
Criminals, are eyeing foreclosed homes with the intent to steal, vandalize, and otherwise damage neglected or vacant properties and their surrounding neighborhoods. Please be aware and call in suspicious activity!!!!!

"Peaceful Sky" marijuana measure is on the Nov. 4th ballot. It's now up to the voters of Hawaii County to decide how our officials will handle marijuana law enforcement in the future.
Recently a lot at VG&CC was accidentally bulldozed along with neighboring boundary pins, fencing and ohia parkland. The police state this is purely a civil matter. Currently no grubbing permit is required for parcels 1 acre and less. Puna and Kau are the most affected w/approx. 27,000 vacant lots 1 acre and less. You may contact your elected officials and Dept. of Public Works regarding this matter before County Bill 373 is passed without address to this issue.

lumber broken, caulking on doors. (Parents please speak to your teenagers. Suspects seen leaving have twice vandalized this Hawaiian family's home site. Explain it takes a bigger person to make the world a better place and all too easy to take more out of the world than you put in. It's not a joke. It's lack of parental supervision. Aggressive Driving Project In response to public out cry we have begun an aggressive driving enforcement program. This pilot program targets aggressive driving from Kurtistown to Hilo and from Shower Dr. to Hilo. (Using unmarked cars to spot speeders, wreckless drivers, etc.) New Neighborhood Policing Officer!
The Community Policing Officer for the Volcano is Officer Scott Amaral. We thank Officer John Briski for presiding over our meetings and for his dedication to the entire Puna District in the Community Policing program!

There have been numerous reports of a phone scam being used here on the Big Island. The culprits are calling people on the phone and saying they are from the Hawaii Police Department or with the Hawaii Police Athletics League. They then ask for donations. **The Hawaii Police Department does not solicit funds via phone for its organizations. This is a scam. If you receive calls like this do not give out any personal information. Contact police at the non emergency number below.

Special Notes!
July 24, 07 Attempted break-in Haunani Rd. Volcano Village. Alarm scared off attempt. Nothing was removed.
August 2, 07 End of Alii Kane in Hawaiian Orchid Isle Estates. Between 12:00 and 1:00 pm occupant witnessed bicycle rider w/ binoculars peering into the home. Description: Shoulder length very dark hair, 5'6 to 5'8, black pants, long sleeve white sweatshirt, possibly teen to 20's. Suspect took off upon discovery.
